Dedication of St. Peter Claver Shrine
Formal Dedication of the Shrine of St. Peter Claver will be on Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the 9:30 am Mass at St. Matthew the Apostle Church. St. Peter Claver, a Jesuit priest, was canonized and elevated to Sainthood in 1888. Father Claver was responsible for baptizing and instructing in the faith over 300,000 slaves who survived the treacherous “middle passage” from Africa, meeting the slave ships in Cartegna and administering to them both physically and spiritually.
